not to be done till you've used the new stuff for a while, i guess. updates are important, especially for graphic cards, i've noticed recently that they seem to update how it handles stuff and its efficiency, my knowledge is in the case of nvidia's which i have.Ī feature of diskkeeper is the Ifast defragment, it organizes the pc around for speed using info on what you use most. I may be wrong on some of this, i don't know exactly how to do it until i do it, and have several times. also dump your personal files back on it and defragment! Reinstall the OS, update all the drivers and to service pack 3, then slowly install programs VIA priority which will simply keep half useless crap from being installed until needed. then format if you have your OperatingSystem disk and other various recovery type disks normally included with purchase of new pcs.įormat and leave out any extra partitions, this will clear junk off the HDD, overstuffed registry's which can't be completely cleaned with regcleaners, and other crap floating around. backup all your personals "porn" and make a note of any programs you might forget to reinstall, mostly ones via download which you dont actually have media for. 2gig of RAM is damn good since i'm on 382? 384? mb of it.

Virtual memory, assuming your using the proper terms, is the HDD being used as imitation RAM and is limited by your read/write speed of the HDD which is probably low since your most likely using a 5000RPM HDD and not one of the new 10,000RPM drives.

There is a program called diskkeeper, its the pro version of winxp disk defragmenter which is included with winxp. and if you're running 5 years most likely without true proper maint., which a LOT of people don't understand how to do, then its probably about 2 times better than what your experiencing. celerons being worse because to me they seem like bargin bin low performance chips.

Laptops processors IMO are like celerons.
